Getting Started Guide for Employees

Welcome to Tenor!

Tenor is an AI-powered practice platform designed to help you build confidence and improve your

communication skills through realistic roleplay conversations. Whether you're preparing for a customer interaction, interview, performance review, coaching conversation, sales call, or difficult workplace discussion, Tenor provides a low-risk environment to practice before the real conversation happens.

Unlike live interactions, practice conversations allow you to experiment, make mistakes, try new approaches, and receive immediate feedback in a judgment-free environment. This helps you develop stronger communication habits, increase confidence, and improve performance over time.

Why Practice Before the Real Conversation?

Research consistently shows that people learn and retain skills more effectively through active practice than through passive learning alone. Reading a guide or attending training can introduce concepts, but applying those concepts in realistic conversations is what helps build confidence and lasting behavior change.

Tenor provides a low-risk environment where you can:

  • Experiment with different approaches and communication styles
  • Practice difficult conversations without the pressure of getting it perfect the first time
  • Build confidence before important real-world interactions
  • Receive immediate feedback on what worked well and what could be improved
  • Develop skills through repetition and continuous improvement

💬 Every practice conversation is an opportunity to learn, refine your approach, and prepare for success in real situations

How Long Does a Practice Take?

Most practice sessions take between 5 and 15 minutes to complete, though this can vary based on the scenario and conversation length.

You don't need to set aside large blocks of time to benefit from practice. Many users incorporate Tenor into their weekly routine by completing short practice sessions before important meetings, presentations, customer conversations, interviews, or coaching discussions.

Even a few minutes of focused practice can help improve confidence and readiness.

While most conversations are relatively short, Tenor supports practice conversations of up to 60 minutes in length, allowing you to work through more complex or in-depth scenarios when needed.

📝 Note: If you pause or stop responding during a practice conversation, the session will automatically time out after approximately one minute of inactivity. This timeout helps ensure the AI remains responsive and that conversation context stays accurate throughout the practice session. If a session times out, you'll need to start a new practice conversation.

Can I Retry a Scenario?

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of practicing in Tenor is the ability to repeat conversations as many times as you'd like. After reviewing your feedback, you can revisit a scenario and apply what you've learned to improve your performance.

Many users find that repeating a scenario helps them:

  • Strengthen newly learned skills
  • Test different communication approaches
  • Improve confidence and fluency
  • Reinforce coaching feedback
  • Measure progress over time

🔁 Growth often comes through repetition, and each attempt gives you another opportunity to refine your skills and build confidence.

Regularly reviewing feedback can help you identify patterns, track growth over time, and focus future practice sessions on areas that will have the greatest impact.
