Using SCORM in Tenor

SCORM packages allow you to launch Tenor scenarios directly from your Learning Management System (LMS), creating a seamless practice experience for your learners.

This article explains how SCORM works in Tenor, what data is shared with your LMS, and what to expect when using SCORM-based training.

πŸ“ Note: Only Admins can download and manage SCORM packages. Learners access SCORM content through your LMS.

How SCORM Works in Tenor

In Tenor, SCORM packages are used to embed individual role play scenarios into your LMS.

In simple terms: the SCORM package acts like a launcher β€” it opens Tenor from inside your LMS.

  • Upload the SCORM package to your LMS
  • When a learner opens it, it launches the Tenor experience
  • The scenario runs inside the LMS (embedded or in a new tab)

Behind the scenes, the experience is still powered by Tenor and hosted on our servers β€” the package simply points the LMS to it.

Each SCORM package corresponds to one scenario.

SCORM Versions Supported

  • SCORM 2004 (recommended)
  • SCORM 1.2

How to Download a SCORM Package

To export a scenario as a SCORM package:

  1. Navigate to your Scenario Library
  2. Select the scenario you want to export
  3. Click LMS Package
  4. Choose a format:
    • SCORM 2004 (recommended)
    • SCORM 1.2
  5. Download the .zip file and upload it to your LMS

πŸ’‘ Tip: SCORM 2004 is generally preferred, as it allows for slightly more detailed data tracking.

What Users Experience

When an end user launches a Tenor SCORM package from the LMS:

  • The Tenor scenario opens inside the LMS environment
  • The user completes the role play as usual
  • At the end, they receive feedback, scores, and coaching tips
  • Clicking Exit returns them to the LMS

πŸ’‘ Note: In most cases, users do not need to log in to Tenor separately β€” access is handled through the LMS. Login behavior can vary by LMS configuration.

What Data is Sent to Your LMS

SCORM supports a limited set of data. Tenor sends:

  • Completion Status – Whether the scenario was completed
  • Score – Leader Score (1–5) converted to a percentage
  • Pass / Fail Status – Based on overall Leader Score
    • Leader Score β‰₯ 3 β†’ Pass
    • Leader Score ≀ 2 β†’ Fail
  • Time Spent – Duration of the session

πŸ“ Note: The pass/fail threshold is fixed and currently cannot be adjusted.

What to Expect with SCORM in Tenor

Analytics Behavior in Tenor

SCORM does not reliably pass user identity back to Tenor.

In simple terms: we know that a role play was completed, but we don’t know who completed it.

How SCORM activity appears in Tenor

  • Counted in totals: SCORM practices contribute to overall usage (e.g., total conversations, activity over time)
  • Not tied to a person: SCORM practices are not linked to individual users
  • Excluded from user-level views and stats, for example:
    • You cannot click into a user and see the practice in their User Details
    • The practice will not appear in Learning Path analytics (since it isn’t tied to a user)
    • The practice will not appear in Group analytics (since we don’t know which group the user belongs to)

πŸ’‘ Simple way to think about it: SCORM activity shows up in the totals, not in the user profiles. Practice done directly in Tenor is unaffected.

Data Available in Your LMS

SCORM only supports basic tracking.

In simple terms: your LMS sees the result, not the full conversation.

Detailed insights (skill scores, feedback breakdowns, conversation details) are not sent to the LMS.

Summary

  • SCORM allows you to launch Tenor scenarios directly from your LMS
  • Each package corresponds to a single scenario
  • Data sent back is limited to completion, score, pass/fail, and time
  • Pass/fail is based on a Leader Score threshold (3+)
  • Some analytics may not be visible in Tenor due to SCORM limitations

FAQ

  1. What analytics are not visible in Tenor when using SCORM?
    • Tenor does not reliably receive user identity from the LMS.
      • Not visible or limited:
        • User-level analytics (Top Users, per-user scores, history)
      • Still visible:
        • Organization-level totals and trends
    • πŸ’‘ Activity is still recorded β€” it just cannot be tied to a specific user.
  1. Can the pass/fail threshold be customized?
    • No β€” it is currently fixed (3+ = pass).
  1. Which SCORM version should I use?
    • Use SCORM 2004 if supported, otherwise SCORM 1.2.
  1. Why is LMS data limited?
    • SCORM is an older standard designed for basic tracking only.

πŸ’‘ We are exploring improvements to SCORM/LMS tracking, as well as newer standards (such as xAPI), to enable more detailed reporting in the future.
