Learning Path Scenario Progression Options

Learning Path progression settings allow Admins and Instructional Designers to control how users unlock scenarios within a Learning Path.

These settings help organizations guide practice experiences in different ways β€” whether you want users to move step-by-step, practice freely, or demonstrate proficiency before advancing.

Where to Find Progression Settings

To configure scenario progression:

  1. Navigate to the Admin Dashboard
  2. Open Learning Paths
  3. Create or edit a Learning Path
  4. Open the Learning Path Settings section
  5. Under Scenario Progression, choose your preferred progression type

Available Progression Types

Tenor currently supports three progression options:

Sequential (Unlock step-by-step)

This is the default progression setting.

Users must complete each scenario before the next scenario unlocks.

For example:

  • Scenario 2 unlocks only after Scenario 1 is completed
  • Scenario 3 unlocks only after Scenario 2 is completed

πŸ“ Note: Sequential progression only requires completion β€” no minimum score is needed to advance.

Any Order (All scenarios accessible)

All scenarios in the Learning Path are immediately available.

Users can:

  • Practice scenarios in any order
  • Jump between scenarios freely

This option is useful when:

  • Scenario order is not important
  • Learners have different training needs
  • You want users to self-direct their practice

Score-Based (Unlock when the required score is attained)

With score-based progression, users must achieve a required score before the next scenario unlocks.

In simple terms: completion alone is not enough to progress β€” the learner must demonstrate proficiency first.

Tenor currently supports two scoring methods:

Leader Score

  • Uses Tenor’s default scoring system based on overall conversation proficiency.
  • Admins and Instructional Designers can set the minimum Leader Score required to unlock the next scenario.
  • For example:
    • Require a Leader Score of 4/5 before progressing

Scorecard Criteria

  • Uses a shared Scorecard to evaluate learner performance.
    • Scorecards can include:
    • Custom evaluation criteria
    • Behavioral competencies
    • Skill-based scoring requirements
    • Organization-specific standards
  • Admins and Instructional Designers can:
    • Select which Scorecard to use
    • Define how many criteria must pass before progression is unlocked
    • For example:
      • Require 3 out of 5 Scorecard criteria to pass

πŸ’‘ Note: Organizations can create their own custom Scorecards.

Choosing the Right Progression Type

Different progression settings support different learning goals:

  • Sequential β†’ Best for guided, structured learning
  • Any Order β†’ Best for flexible or self-directed practice
  • Score-Based β†’ Best for proficiency-based training and certification-style programs
